Mechanic Liens

A mechanics lien is a claim by a contractor, subcontractor, supplier, architect or engineer for payment for work done on property or to develop property. Illinois mechanics lien law is unique. The Illinois Supreme Court has said so. It is also complicated. If you are in any way involved in construction either as an owner, contractor, subcontractor, architect, engineer, title company or lender, you need knowledgeable legal advice and service to assert or defend against mechanics liens. Our colleague Howard M. Turner has written a book that the Illinois State Bar Association has described as the new authoritative text on the law of Illinois mechanics liens. Leading lawyers and former judges have endorsed it. Even though the book was only published in April of 2016, it is already being cited by lawyers to judges as authority. If you are involved in construction, you need high quality advice and service on mechanics liens. In Illinois, the best place to get this is Nigro, Westfall & Gryska.
